FAQ's
1. What is Road Runner?
ROAD RUNNER is a broadband online cable service featuring blazing fast speed and superlative content. The speed is provided by the ROAD RUNNER network, an advanced system of broadband, fiber-optic, coaxial lines connected to high-speed cable modems. The content comes from diverse local, national, and third party providers.

2. How does Road Runner work?
Instead of a computer modem hooked up to a local phone line, Road Runner customers will be provided with a high-speed cable modem that links their PC to the cable fiber-optic/coaxial network and server complex. Users can access local and national content from our servers which also provide a gateway for Road Runner customers to connect to the Internet at very high speeds.

4. How fast is Road Runner?
Road Runner offers speeds up to 100 times faster than traditional dial-up connections over its high-speed network. The infrastructure and technology are designed to bring content as close to the consumer as possible, through sophisticated caching servers located at the Regional Data Center or cable headend. This technology provides access to a wide variety of multimedia content without the need to go into the heavily trafficked Internet space. Many factors can influence the delivery of data, however, particularly once you are out on the Internet. These factors can include how busy the Internet is at the time, and how many hits the site you are visiting is getting. Another factor can be the kind of computer equipment you are using … while Road Runner will work as long your setup meets the minimum requirements, the device with the slowest throughput along the path determines the effective speed. Generally speaking, users meeting the recommended requirements rather than the minimum requirements tend to experience faster speeds.

5. Will a customer be able to have a home page on Road Runner?
Yes. Up to 5 megabytes of space will be provided for users to create their personal home pages.

You do not need to be a cable television customer to access Road Runner service, as long as you
reside in the Time Warner Cable area.

Road Runner can operate up to a total of 27 Mb/s on a given network, with no noticeable impact with multiple users. Should the Road Runner business grow to the extent that there are more customers requesting service than the allocated bandwidth can accommodate, Time Warner Cable will open another channel for the service.

8. What am I agreeing to by using the Road Runner service?
Microsoft is providing a customized version of the company's newest Internet Explorer browser to navigate Road Runner.

If customers choose, they may disable the Internet Explorer browser and use their own. This is not, however, recommended procedure and technical support will not be made available if problems arise. Not all third-party plug-ins will be supported by the Road Runner browser and, therefore, the responsibility for service if they are installed becomes the user's. Please Note: Road Runner is aiming to provide support for the Safari 1.0 browser in terms of web site compatibility and help documentation.

Yes, you may supply your own modem as long as it is DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) compliant, but remember that Time Warner Cable will let you use our modems free of charge.

Not permanently, customers will be assigned an IP address dynamically when they open a Road Runner session by switching on their computer and clicking on the Road Runner icon. Currently only Business Customers can choose to pay an extra monthly fee for a static IP address.

We take security, yours and ours, seriously. For our part, we've designed Road Runner's cable modems to deliver data only to the address that has been assigned to your computer. This prevents the interception of data that any user sends or receives. In addition, the modems we use support the encryption of data sent to and from the computer. We've set up a local resource to help answer some of the questions we've received about the security of a Road Runner connection. For more information visit the Road Runner Help page.
