Important Security Notice - E-mail Scam Warning

 

 

Have you received an official looking E-mail warning that there was a problem processing your billing information for the month of September, 2007 or asking for your user name and password to Road Runner Webmail. Please be aware that these are NOT legitimate E-mails from Road Runner. DO NOT PROVIDE THIS INFORMATION. Customers should disregard and delete these E-mail messages.

You may report these E-mail Scams by sending a copy of the e-mail with its full headers to Road Runner. To report e-mail abuse, it is important that you copy the e-mail in question (or one example e-mail) with full headers displayed and send to spamblock@security.rr.com and/or abuse@rr.com. Paste the copy of the offending mail into the body of your e-mail. Do not send attachments. If the full e-mail headers are not included, we will be unable to discern where the e-mail originated, and thus will be unable to assist you with the matter.

Please be aware that Road Runner will not request your billing or password information via E-mail.

There are several versions of these E-mail Scams currently circulating. Following are examples of the latest E-mail scams:

Example 1

From: RoadRunner [mailto:service@roadrunner.com]
Sent: Monday, September 15, 2007 8:55 AM
To: customer_name@sc.rr.com
Subject: ***Important Notice****
Importance: High

Dear Member:

Thank you for choosing RoadRunnerTM.Unfortunately there was a problem processing your billing information for the month of September, 2007. Soon we are upgrading some of our servers in our database for new service for our customers. Our number of clients has been increasing rapidly last month and because of that it is necessary for addidtional database servers, where some of our clients are going to be moved. We require all moved accounts to verify their information on file with us. To verify your billing at this time, please visit our secure server webform by clicking the hyperlink below:

· https://www.rr.com/rdrun/update

If you choose to ignore our request, you leave us no choice but to temporary suspend your account.

How can I restore my account access?

  • Update your billing here: RoadRunner Online Billing Center and complete the web form.

    Completing all of the check list items will automatically restore your account access.

From: Webmail Customer Care [mailto:customer.care2007@hotmail.com] - Please note this is not a legitimate Road Runner email address.
Sent: Sunday, September 23, 2007 9:30 AM
Subject: PLEASE PROTECT YOUR WEBMAIL ACCOUNT FROM BEING CLOSED.

This is to formally notify you that we are presently working on the Road Runner Webmail, and this can close your webmail account with Road Runner completely.

To avoid this, please send your surname and password to Road Runner Webmail Customer Care on: Road [webmailcustomercare@yahoo.com.cn] - Please note this is not a legitimate Road Runner email address. Please do this, so that your Road Runner Webmail Account can be protected from being close.

Your immediate response is highly needed.

PLEASE PROTECT YOUR WEBMAIL ACCOUNT FROM BEING CLOSED.

Subject: ACCOUNT REVALIDATION PROCESS

Dear Customer,

Due to a few problems experienced in our service network,you are expected to undergo an account holders re-validation process in order to sort out some problems that may be encountered in our email service to you.

This process is not going to take long and will be characterized by certain lapses in our email services to you.

The RoadRunner® Broadband Service will require you to complete the account details below and select a test question and answer (to serve as security code that will be needed in logging in to your account service during the duration of this process).
