The
most efficient and safe way to handle SPAM is to delete it.
Never reply to it, click on any links, or follow instructions
about removing yourself from a list. Doing so informs the SPAMMER
that they've found a live mail box and you may find yourself
getting more E-mail than before.
Never purchase something advertised
in unsolicited E-mail. This just encourages the
spammers. If a product familiar to you is advertised,
complain to the manufacturing company about their E-mail
practices.
Maintain a spam E-mail account.
Web-based E-mail accounts are free and easy to set up. Get
one that is intended specifically for spam. Don't use it for
personal and work communications, but give it out when signing
up for mailing lists, posting to newsgroups, or shopping online.
Don't give out your real E-mail address.
If you don't have a spam E-mail account, leave the space for
your E-mail address blank when filling out online registration
forms. If the site requires you to enter an E-mail address,
you can fill in a phony one.
Use your E-mail client's filtering
functionality to filter unwanted messages. You can
filter messages with Outlook Express. From the main menu
select Tools -> Message Rules -> Mail. If your are
using Outlook from the main menu, select Tools -> Rules
Wizard or you can purchase spam filtering software. For
help on filtering out unwanted spam visit Preventing
Unwanted Spam*.
